Mr. Speaker. I am pleased to join my friends and family in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first German immigrants to Fresno County. As a descendant of this proud group. I am honored to pay tribute to the small group of Germans who settled in Fresno County back in the late 1880s. The history of the Germans who left their homeland to move to Russia during the 18th century is a unique point in German history. In the late 1700s. Germany was struggling with severe economic devastation from the Seven Years War as well as serious and oftentimes brutal religious conflicts in recorded history.
