Miss Jean Marie Whichard. entitled her partriotic essay. "The Challenge of American Citizenship." I would like to submit this essay It can be said that the thousands of people that enter America each year share a common bond. the hunger for opportunity. From the politically oppressed and economically inferior countries come individuals who are accustomed to a life of struggle. They come in search of an opportunity for a better life. but what must they give up? Leaving ones home can be hard for anyone. but to leave for a place thousands of miles away is quite final. Many immigrants leave with no hope of ever returning. Some leave relatives and friends behind. They all leave a familiar environment. but the burning desire to be an American drives them onward.
