Hadassah has grown from the dream of one remarkable woman. Henrietta Szold. to an organization of 385.000 women. Today Hadassah is the largest voluntary womans organization in the United States. It is its volunteer nature that has always impressed me most about Hadassah. Hadassahs volunteers have performed so many vital functions. These functions have been both lifesaving and lifebuilding. During the 1940s. Hadassahs Youth Aliyah program brought hundreds of thousands of European Jewish children to Israel where it educated them and trained them for productive lives. The absorption of children continued with young refugees from the Arab worldfrom Iraq. Syria. Tunisia.
