In particular. our Government must do everything within its power to end the continuous violations of human rights of Jewish citizens in the Soviet Union. The case of Naum Meiman exemplifies the intolerable treatment accorded Soviet Jews. Naums wife Inna suffered from cancer but was not allowed to emigrate to the West to receive the appropriate treatment until the disease had become critical. As a result of the delayed attention. Inna Meiman passed away in January. Despite his numerous applications for an exit visa to accompany his wife in the United States. Naum was consistently denied permission to emigrate. In addition. he was not allowed to attend his beloved wifes funeral. Naum is recovering from the loss of his wife. and still wishes to live life in the West. The Soviet Government refuses to grant Naum this wish. I urge the Soviet Union to allow Naum Meiman to emigrate to the West.*
