We can scarcely imagine the untold suffering and hardships which are a daily part of the lives of a people existing under a military occupation. The statistics which accompany this brutal invasion are staggering. Close to onethird of the entire population has been forced to flee the country. The majority of these refugees are now in Pakistan where they are placing an incredible burden on an already strained economy. The Soviets. in attempts to crush Afghan resistance. have resorted to unconscionable military tactics. This includes the reported use of chemical weapons. deliberate destruction of crops and livestock and statesponsored terrorism which have combined to leave over a million dead.
