She was a courageous woman who told us in a firm voice upon her arrival that she did "not come to the United States to die." In a very real sense. Irma was right. Her robust and lively spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Her sincere determination to prevail will act as our inspiration to continue the fight for Soviet Jewry. for all Soviet prisoners of conscience who are unjustly separated from their families and barred from exercising their inalienable right of free emigration. If we have learned anything from Irmas example. it is how little the Soviet Union has changed. Our continued struggle for Soviet Jewry will serve as a fitting and everlasting memorial to Irma Meiman.
