The administration request totals $5.645 billion and includes 73.371 positions. The request is 7.1 percent above the fiscal year 1987 budget authority and 46.1 percent above the 1986 budget authority. The bill proposes increases of $180 million for Immigration. Naturalization Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for costs associated with illegal alien legalization provisions of the recently passed Immigration Reform Act and a $146 million supplemental request for implementation of the immigration L bill this year as required. Additional increases are proposed for 108 DEA positions totaling $25 million. $2.4 million for the 85 positions in the FBI. and $21.4 million for 417 new assistant U.S. attorneys. Finally. $165 million is requested for prison expansion. modification and repair.
