Dr. Charny has no close relatives in Moscow. His brother Leon was allowed to emigrate in 1979. and presently lives in Needham. MA. Dr. Charny is a sick man. His leaving the Soviet Union will not endanger that countrys national security. He must not be allowed to die in the name of Soviet paranoia and suspicion. Therefore. I take the opportunity today from this podium to strongly urge Soviet General Secretary Gorbachev. on humanitarian grounds. to allow Dr. Charny and his family to emigrate to the United States. Mr. Speaker. some may find the words spoken here to be repetative.
