Session #100 · 1987–89

Speech #1000005771

Reid was fined $200 and placed on probation for 2 years. After considerable thoughtand not in any way discounting the seriousness of this convictionI have concluded that this conviction does not warrant expelling Mr. Reid from this country. Mr. Reid served his probation without incident. and has had no other problems in the subsequent decade he has spent building a life in this country for himself and his family. I believe that where deportation of an individual would work an extreme hardship on his or her U.S. citizen children. private relief is appropriate. As that is the case here. I urge that relief be granted Ayrton Oliver Reid.
