Benjamin G. Levich. and also to take note of the efforts made by my distinguished colleague to help Dr. Levich emigrate from the Soviet Union. After applying for permission to emigrate in 1972. Dr. Levich lost both his positions as a professor at Moscow University and as head of the Hydrodynamics Institute. And while his sons were finally permitted to emigrate in 1975. Dr. Levich and his wife. Tanya. were forbidden to join them. My distinguished colleague from Massachusetts began urging their release. as he has for so many others in similar circumstances. and during a visit to the Soviet Union in 1978 was assured by Soviet authorities that Dr. Levich and his wife would be allowed to emigrate. And Dr. Levichin manner so characteristic of himused his new freedom to share his scientific expertise with others.
