Mr. President. admirable efforts are being made in North Carolina to assist a group of 200 Montagnard refugees who will be settling there in midNovember. The 200 Montagnards are originally from Vietnam but are coming to North Carolina from the Philippines. Lutheran Family Services in Raleigh and Greensboro. with assistance from Catholic Social Services in Charlotte. is coordinating and administering the search for appropriate sponsors. willing volunteers. housing. jobs. and donations of cash and household goods. These groups will also oversee lessons in acculturation and training in English as a second language. In assisting the Montagnards settle in the United States. the American people are fulfilling commitments made 25 years ago in the course of our military campaign in Vietnam.
