That was particularly true of the large Albanian community in my home area of New York City and Westchester County. where concerned members of the Albanian community. such as Peter Camaj and so many others. kept vigil over the plight of Pjeter Ivezaj and even traveled to Washington to ensure a strong U.S. Government response. A strong U.S. response did occur and for good reason. Pjeter Ivezaj. who had emigrated to the United States in 1972 from Yugoslavia. became a United States citizen and works as a high school teacher in Sterling Heights. Mi. As an ethnic Albanian. with a great love of life and basic freedoms.
