Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990276410

I welcome the news of the release of several prominent Soviet human rights activists in the last few months. Despite this good news. we must not forget that there are thousands of refuseniks and dissidents still held within the Soviet Union. According to the international law adopted in the Helsinki agreements. all people wishing to emigrate from one country to another should be permitted to do so. I look forward to the day when the Soviets change their policies and adhere to agreements to which they have agreed. My friends Naum and Inna Meiman are still being held in the Soviet Union.
