Chairman. what we are saying is we must recognize that these people are living now in a subsociety of America. Let us give them the opportunity to show that they are decent and loyal. Give them the opportunity after a period of time. meeting the conditions and the requirements that are spelled out in the bill to become eligible for citizenship and I am sure that it will be a onetime effort and not beyond that. Without this provision. I assure you that. in whatever way I possibly can. I will not support the effort to bring this immigration bill to conference or anywhere beyond this House.
