What this amendment does is actually prevent the eviction of families and senior citizens who are there at the present time. It keeps families together. and by so doing prevents all kinds of social problems. The law that was passed by Congress 5 years ago and is now going to be put into effect will prevent an illegal alien from getting public housing in the future but keep those families that qualify if at least one member of the family is a citizen or legal resident. Under those conditions the family remains intact. but if the entire family in public housing is without documents. then that family leaves. Housing authorities throughout the country are in favor of this amendment and I urge its adoption.
