Under my amendment. the Border Patrol would be able to hire up to 50 percent more personnel and agents over the fiscal years 1987 to At the present time. there are a total of about 3.800 people on the Border Patrol. This amendment would permit the employment of about 1.900 new Border Patrol agents across the borders of the United States. which is about 8.000 miles. Of that number. about 1.900 are on the border of our neighbor to the south. Mexico.
