Meiman continues to suffer from a particular type of cancer that is nontreatable in the Soviet Union. She has undergone several operations to remove the tumors at the back of her neck. and so much tissue has been removed that she can barely hold her head up. Soviet doctors do not have any other treatment they can give her. yet emigration officials refuse to allow her and her husband to leave in order to obtain the necessary care that could save her life.
