I think that it needs to be said for the sake of perspective that some things are not being said in this exchange that need saying in order to give the perspective that House Members would like to hear and see. This House. by a majority today. would approve a comprehensive immigration reform law for the country but for one very significant fact: The Democratic leadership which controls it. and the gentleman from New Jersey . the chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary which has jurisdiction over it. adamantly refuse to permit any bill on immigration reform to come to the floor that includes a guestworker programadamantly refuse. Mr. RODINo has said publicly that he will not take a bill to conference with the other body that contains a guestworker program. One of the strange things about this whole issue is thatI will say it againthis House last week disapproved a rule for consideration of the immigration bill that did not contain a guestworker program. It is politics. but I think that the party that is producing that result should be accountable to the American people for the frustration that we all feel. Another thing that the gentleman mentioned was about the matter of 28324 cc these people coming here for economic reasons.
