Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990263639

It is apparent we are going to be around here for a few more days. There is no reason why the Rules Committee cannot go back into session. report a rule out that is fair. not in my judgment but in the judgment of a majority of the Members of the House and Senate. To those who say the immigration bill is dead. I would request that they might take a look at the editorial that appears in todays Washington Post. There it articulates very well why the membership of the House. both Democrat and Republican. voted last weeks rule down. But it also goes on to suggest why we need immigration reform now. We do not need to wait until next year. we cannot wait until next year. Mr. Speaker. I hope you will work with the Rules Committee to bring a fair rule out so that we may have a vote up or down on the important issue of immigration reform.
