I am sorry that more Members were not here to hear the debate. The rule in effect does say. Dont let the farmworker problem. which has been solved in this legislation in a manner acceptable by all of the interests intimately concerned with it: The growers. the laborers. the farmworkers themselves. dont let this limited issue destroy our chances of getting real immigration reform. Lets fence off and protect for the moment the agreement that has been reached about what to do exactly about the 200.000 to 300.000 persons who are needed each year to harvest these crops. so that we may solve the basic and much larger problem of ensuring that the between 1 and 2 million illegals who come in each year will no longer be able to do so. As every speaker has mentioned. this is a most important bill.
