We do know that they have suffered the typical fate of refuseniksloss of employment. endless waiting. harassment from official Soviet society. They applied to emigrate to the United States back in 1978. and still they wait. All these familiesthe Mendeleyevs. the Reingolds. the Levitashave the right to emigrate from the Soviet Union. a signatory of the Helsinki accords. But they are all refused. punished. and made to wait interminably to learn their eventual fate. Our power to help them directly is very limited.
