While we are on that subject. however. please permit me to express a little ethnic pride. About 2 months ago. we had a celebration in my home. the State of New York. for the birthday of our Statue of Liberty. For millions of immigrants. including my grandparents the Lady was the first thing they saw in America. and she was a symbol of hope and opportunity. It is only fitting. therefore. and it fills me with great pride that this anniversary year of the Statue of Liberty would also see the confirmation of the first Italian American to become Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
