His work has been recognized by many. and his numerous awards include a Pulitizer Prize. a New York Music Critics Circle Award. an Academy Award. a gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. and a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Now it is the duty of Congress to present Aaron Copland with an award for which he is very deserving. It is especially fitting that we give this award to Mr. Copland. the son of Eastern European immigrants. in the same year that we celebrate the centennial of the Statue of Liberty. Aaron Copland is a prolific producer of music. It seems that he has always been interested in expanding the scope of music. and as a result. his work has been brought to the screen. to the theater and to the orchestra.
