Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990245554

In June 1984. Alexander was sentenced to 2 years in a labor camp. He was released last month and is now living with his family in Moscow. The Yakir family has been the target of unjustified persecution by the Soviet Government. After waiting more than 13 years to emigrate from the Soviet Union. it is only right that the government should grant their request. Continued rejection of their request for exit visas is a flagrant violation of the Helsinki Final Act of 1975 and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights of 1947 to which the Soviet Union is a signatory.
