I have expressed my concern about many human rights abuses including the use of slave labor in the Soviet Union. persecution of Vladimir Khailo. a Soviet Baptist evangelist from Krasny Luch. U.S.S.R.. and the continued persecution of Soviet Jews. I have also supported legislative initiatives and other efforts to bring an end to these situations. As human rights abuses continue. we must remain firm in our resolve to speak out against them and support principled efforts to end such abhorrent treatment of our fellow man. America and other nations of the free world must continue to seek justice and respect for basic human rights. including freedom of speech. religion and emigration worldwide as embodied in the Helsinki accords.
