Yuri Druzhnikov is a wellknown Russian novelist. playwright. and author of short stories for children. He has been a refusenik for 9 years and has been denied over 10 requests to emigrate. After his first application for an exit permit was submitted. he was immediately expelled from the Union of Soviet Writers. allegedly for "having chosen the road of betrayal to his country." His books were removed from libraries and bookstores. his name was deleted from articles in professional literary journals. magazines. and newspapers. His books accepted for publication by Moscow publishing houses were prohibited by censorship.
