Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990220904

Mr. Speaker. for some time. I have been following the sad and distressing case of two Soviet refuseniks. Inna and Nahum Meiman. Inna Meiman has a severely debilitating cancer which Is slowly killing her. Since 1983. the couple has been trying to emigrate from the Soviet Union to get the medical treatment so desperately needed to save Innas life. I have pursued numerous avenues on behalf of the Meimans. I have written to General Secretary Gorbachev urging him to release the Meimans. I initiated a letterwriting campaign to the Soviet leader from my constituents and other Members of Congress. Most recently.
