The rededication of this grand statue as an international symbol of liberty has caused a large number of Americans to try to express their feelings for this country. Sonjas poem was entered in a contest in Washington State and turned out to be a winning composition. I know her thoughts on the Statue of Liberty express the feelings of many other Americans. The Statue of Liberty has been more than just a statue ever since its installation. She has represented hope. freedom. and liberty to the many immigrants who have caught sight of her and not forgotten their first glimpse of America.
