The United States should support the efforts of the new High Commissioner to strengthen the principle of international burden sharing and to Improve UNHCR efficiency and effectiveness. 2. The High Commissioner should be asked to take the lead In the search for sustainable solutions to refugee problems in Southeast Asia. Including more widespread resettlement. voluntary repatriation. and local Integration. 3. Traditional donors and others should be encouraged to increase financial support for UNHCR and other refugeerelated international organizations. 4. Despite domestic budget constraints. the United States should provide its fair share of refugee relief and resettlement support.
