We know of their valiant struggle to expel the Soviet army of occupation from their territory. This is a struggle which has engaged not only the sympathy. but the support of men and women of good will throughout the world. I do think it is important for us. over and over again. to make it clear that the Afghan people. who have heroically undertaken to resist the Soviet occupation of their occupation at a great loss of life and incalculable devastation to their country. and with over 3 million refugees. that their cause continues to enlist the sympathy and support of the Congress and of the people of our country. I can think of few causes which have commanded more widespread support here in the House over the last few years. and I am pleased to bring it to the floor now. at the particular urging of my very good friend. the gentleman from California . who is the "ambassador of the MuJahideen" to Washington until such time as they get control of their own government and appoint one of their own to represent their interests over here.
