Volunteers are active in a number of food banks. handicapped programs. programs for the elderly. and in programs serving the homeless. The volunteers are at work identifying affordable housing for lowincome persons. at job training and development sites for the chronically unemployed. in employment programs for the handicapped. They work with refugees. the hungry. and others who are in need of help. In all. there are 45 VISTAs working in 10 projects in my State. and each and every one of them is vital to the wellbeing of hundreds of people. This kind of basic fundamental work is being carried out all over the country.
