Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990195604

Mr. President. today Senator LONG and I are introducing a joint resolution to designate the month of August 1986. as "Cajun Music Month." The State of Louisiana has long enjoyed a culture characterized by the music and distinct identity of the Cajuns. the Frenchspeaking immigrants who left Acadia in 1755 and settled in Louisiana. Since that time the Cajuns have grown to encompass other ethnic influences. all the while maintaining their unique musical and culinary expertise and celebrating their famous "Joie de vivre" (love of life). While the Cajuns are a tremendous natural resource of which Louisiana is very proud. their appeal stretches far beyond the borders of our State.
