I would also like to mention a constituent of mine. Valery Chalidze. who has been trying for years to pressure the Soviet Government into granting an exit permission for his sister. Francesca Chalidze. Ms. Chalidzes repeated petitions for emigration have been denied and she has been forced to give up her position as a respected scientist. We all must pledge ourselves to work on behalf of these individuals that continue to suffer from this manifestation of Soviet intransigence. In closing. let me make clear that the latest Soviet efforts to reunite families has been noted and well received by this Congress and much of the world.
