I think the recent announcement that the Soviets will resolve 36 cases of divided families is a sign that our commitment is not fruitless. I personally am especially concerned about Veniamin Bogornolny and his wife Tatiana. refuseniks who have relatives here in the United States. Veniamin has the dubious distinction of being the longest waiting Soviet refusenik. according to the "Guinness Book of World Records." He has been trying to emigrate from the U.S.S.R. for almost two decades now. in 1970. Veniamin was issued a draft notice and inducted into the Army. while his parents and three sisters were allowed to emigrate to Israel. After his discharge. Veniamin again applied unsuccessfully for an exit visa in 1972. and his subsequent efforts to leave the Soviet Union have been futile. Veniamin and his wife Tatiana have been harassed continuously in the Soviet Union. Their apartment has been ransacked and their personal property vandalized and destroyed.
