Senate Concurrent Resolution 143. and I am pleased to be joining my Senate colleagues in this effort. Our interest in this program stems from a trip the two Senators and I and Congressman McEwEN made to Southeast Asia In January of this year on behalf of American POWs and MIAs. While in Vietnam. staff members attached to our delegation visited the Phanat Nikhom Refugee Camp in Thailand and saw firsthand the need for this program to continue in full force. Unfortunately. that is not the case at this moment. On January 1. 1986. the SRV suspended UNHCR interviewing and processing of applicants for departure to the United States.
