We must not allow this service to be gutted while simultaneously expecting it to: Step up its war on drugs. halt the migration of illegal immigrants onto our shores. and police the Fourth of July flotilla in New York Harbor. Even more amazing. at the same time this resolution proposes to slash Coast Guard spending by $282 million from last years funding. it proposes to exact new user fees totaling $150 million a year. How realistic is it to expect the authorizing committee to approve controversial user fees at the same time funding is savaged by this resolution?
