The Borough of Roosevelt is a unique and extraordinary community. It represents an important slice of the American dream and spirit. It was founded in 1936. in the depth of the depression. That year 200 families. mostly immigrant garment workers from New York City. were invited to create new lives for themselves in a new community across the Hudson River. The Government built the homes. the factory. a public works system. and a school. and then the people came and filled up the buildings with their hopes and dreams for the future. There was a culture. pride. and camaraderie among the citizens of the borough of Roosevelt.
