In a recent report. the Office of Technology Assessment found that Indians still suffer from mortality rates that are higher than the national average. According to OTA. the most recent available data show that death rates were higher among Indians for liver disease. pneumonia. diabetes. kidney disease. homicide. suicide. among others. The Indian death rate from tuberculosisa preventable disease that is almost unknown except among the homeless and Asian refugeesis seven times that of the U.S. population. Clearly. this is an unacceptable situation. H.R. 4600 offers some remedies.
