Mr. President. Naum and Inna Meiman are friends of mine. They are a wonderful couple living in the Soviet Union who wish to emigrate to Israel. This wish has caused many problems for the Meimans. Since Naum applied to emigrate over 10 years ago. he has been harassed. Although he is a respected scientist. Naum has been isolated from the scientific community. Along with this. his phone has been cut off and almost all his mail continues to be confiscated. Irna also suffers at the hands of the Soviet Government. She has cancer. and although the Soviet doctors have told Inna that there is nothing more they can do for her. the Soviets refuse to grant her permission to go to Israel to receive more advanced medical treatment.
