This has resulted in separate allethnic classes. and as a consequence. bilingual/bicultural education has furthered the cultural isolation and alienation of many ethnic Americans. Pride in ones heritage is important. but the time has come to alter the Federal Governments role in the ever increasing linguistic and cultural partitioning of our Nation. To date. Uncle Sam has actively promoted isolation through inflexible bilingual education policies. Most Americans agree that our Government should promote national unity and the best possible English instruction for our young immigrants. And that is what we seek to do with this bill. We want our nonEnglish speaking students to learn the Nations language and partici. ate in the American dream.
