His leadership of the Greek Orthodox Church of North and South America and subsequent assumption of the leadership of the Eastern Orthodox Church will remain Indelibly etched in the annals of church history. He was born in a small village of northern Greece called Vasilikon. which means "kingly." Indeed. he lived up to that description in the manner he carried himself and exercised his religious duties as a representative of his God and a servant of his people. His service in America created an organized church for Greek emigrants and gave impetus to the organization of other branches of the Eastern Orthodox Church in this country. When he left America to go to Instanbul. Turkey on Harry Trumans Presidential plane. he carried with him the vision of an extraordinary accomplishment In America and a desire to apply his experiences in this unique country of ours on a wider and ecumenical plane of action.
