Mr. Speaker. Senator Javits reached great political heights despite modest beginnings. The son of immigrant parents. Jacob Javits grew up on the Lower East Side of New York City. and like many other firstgeneration Americans. worked his way through school. He sold printing supplies as he took night courses at Columbia University. and graduated from New York University Law School in 1926.
