I would like my colleagues to be clear on what this bill does. First. those visitors who a consular officer has reason to believe will engage in: sabotage. espionage. terrorism and criminal activities will not be allowed to enter this country. In fact. except for the provision which says that "no one may be denied a temporary visa because of his or her political beliefs". my bill leaves current law unchanged. Also. my bill leaves the decisionmaking process where it is today: in the hands of the consular official or the Attorney General. In short. this legislation will in no way harm or weaken the national security interests of this country.
