This agreement allowed the U.S.S.R. to illegally seize and occupy Lithuania. and forcefully incorporate its people against their. national willcontrary to their desire for independence and sovereigntyinto the Soviet Union. The United States has never recognized the illegal occupation of Lithuania by the Soviets. The Soviet Union has maintained a policy of brutal suppression. deportation. and Russification against the will of Lithuania and its Baltic neighbors for the past 46 years. We. as an independent and sovereign nation. must continue to support the Lithuanian people in their quest for freedom and restoration of the fundamental human ights which they are presently denied by the Soviet Union. The Soviets intention to establish a regional interest by synthesizing the various and separate national interests of Lithuania and the Baltic States into the Communist orbit should not and will not be acknowledged nor accepted by the people of the United States.
