The Soviet Council of Religious Affairs has outlawed teaching religion to persons under the age of 16. In addition to prohibiting the passing on of their religious traditions to the next generation. there are no Jewish seminaries in the Soviet Union. unlike other registered religions. Discrimination by the Soviet Government against Jews is constant and calculated. I am thankful that Mrs. Bonner has received the medical treatment that she so desperately required and that Anatoly Shcharansky has been reunited with his wile in Israel. but we must not let these events lessen our dedication to see that all people who wish to emigrate are allowed to do so in accordance with international law.
