Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990154308

Mr. Speaker. emigrating from the Soviet Union was a problem long before I came to the Congress. Unfortunately. for all of us. I expect that it will remain a problem for some time to come. Understanding that my individual efforts will not change the situation significantly. I want to take this opportunity to encourage others to speak out. Together. over the long haul. our struggle may change the pattern of human rights abuses in the Soviet Union. Perhaps we can gain no greater understanding of the uncertainty and fear of life as a refusenik than to listen to what the young children of refusenik families have to say.
