I rise today to once again add my voice and my support to the issue of international human rights. Tomorrow marks the 37th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration on Human RIghtsa document which continues to be the cornerstone of international human rights diplomacy and which served as the foundation for the Ilelsinki accords which were agreed to in 1975. At issue here is something very basicits the right of every human being to be free from torture. free to emigrate. free to practice the religion of their choice. and free to hold political opinions of their choice. In the 10 years Ive been a Member of Congress. Ive had the opportunity to visit almost every corner of the globe.
