Session #99 · 1985–87

Speech #990123008

Mr. President. I am introducing today a private relief bill for Maartin Van Kruyssen. Maartin is a highly skilled baker. and is personally responsible for the success of his employers business. He was recruited from Holland in December of 1982. and entered the United States on a temporary work permit. Because of the highly skilled nature of the work done by a master pastry chef. no one in Alaska was qualified to take this position. While Maartln was to train a U.S. citizen as his replacement. extensive efforts have failed to produce suitable candidates. Since he is providing a unique and valuable service to his community and to his employer. which would be lost if he is forced to leave this country.
