Only 93 Jews were permitted to emigrate from the Soviet Union during September. To date. a total of 796 Jews were granted exit visas in 1985. as compared with 721 who were permitted to emigrate during the same time period last year. The monthly average of Jews permitted to leave hovers at less that 100. closely mirroring the trend for 19G4. during which fewer than 1.000 Jews were granted the right to emigrate. Since the coming to power of Soviet leader Gorbachev. the situation for Jews in the U.S.S.R. has continued to deteriorate. President Reagan should bring this isue to the forefront when the two leaders ineet in Geneva.
