In 1932. at the direction of the late Bishop Joseph Pernicone. who was Mount Carmels young pastor at the time. the church community built a school. which was dedicated in 1935. Since that time. 2.500 students have passed through the schools halls. Again. it was the community that raised the money in the beginning to operate the school. The church and school still stand In Poughkeepsies little Italy. Many of the areas former residents return to their old neighborhood regularly. Mount Carmel and the community It serves have realized an American dream. Through hard work and perseverance. the children of the first immigrants have become part of this countrys culture. Congratulation to the church and Its many loyal parishioners.
